Does Disfellowshipping only prohibit spiritual contact with a DF family member or friend?

all through my life, now in my 40's, i've seen df people get completely shunned by family and friends, but an ex elder showed me the stfog book that says it's just spiritual contact that stops.

so what's the crack?

i'm mega confused, as i want to go p.o.m.o or ideally da but don't want to loose family..

Sorry doubter but the society is pushing its members to shun inactive ones now as well.

I didn't disassociate because I'd done anything wrong, I disassociated because I saw the society for what it is after researching its early publications. People I've known for over a decade shun me because I've chosen to have a different view, which I Didnt voice to them therefore I want even classed as an apostate. They shunned without even knowing the circumstances behind me disassociating and all because the society say someone who leaves is mentally diseased.

They only say that so its members can't have their eyes open to 'the truth about the truth'. That's because the religion doesn't stand up under scrutiny and they know it!!

What would you do or say?

a brother who is not baptized ( so there's still hope for him ) had a sister recently run into him at a store.

show wanted to know if he's going to the kingdom hall.

she asked him to write a letter for her to give to his mother ( who's deceased) in the paradise explaining why he didn't make it.

Aren't inactive ones supposed to be seen as "lost sheep" and "not a lost cause". I can remember that assembly talk. You wouldn't treat a list sheep hardly or it would run away, you would treat it gently and lovingly.

Doubter if you don't agree with the society on things and speak up then you're reproved or disfellowshiped, where's freedom of choice in that?? Its their way or the highway

Doubter - jws do not have freedom of association because they Can be reproved or disfellowshiped for associating with whom the society deems "the wrong people". Just as you can be reproved for being on this site and associating with us "mentally diseased apostates" as the society so kindly put it in the November 2011 study watchtower.

Doubter - the vast majority of "worldly families" don't cut their children off though if they decide to take a different course in life or if they have different beliefs!!

Doubter - sometimes pressure and family expectations forces/coerces people to feel like they HAVE to go to bethel, pioneer, be an elder, etc because their families and friends expect it of them. That kind of pressure can be very intense on a person emotionally

Funny occurrences

what were some funny experiences you had of things that happened during talks at the meetings?.

a few of mine:.

- a brother had dyed his hair before his talk and it was raining heavily when he arrived at the hall and the dye was running down his face during his talk and his skin went more and more grey as the black dye ran down it.

A dad told his little boy to answer 'Jesus' during the watchtower study and the little boy said 'batman' instead and that had everyone laughing. The poor boy got punished though. He was only 4

We had a sister go to answer and she burped so loudly into the microphone which obviously made it even louder and everyone was laughing so much and the chairman kept bringing it up for the rest of the meeting whenever he could get a joke in about it
